Frequently Asked Questions
We love hearing from our visitors, but to make things easier, we’ve collected the answers to the questions we get most often. Check them out below — your answer might be waiting for you already!
Where is the ice track?
Lake Inari, right, but it is NOT in the village of Inari. Actually quite far from there! The lake is huge and our track is located in the Veskoniemi harbour bay, not too far from Ivalo (15/20 minutes drive). Click here to check the exact location.
Do I need to know how to skate?
Absolutely not! We have skate helping aids and also kicksleds that can be used by beginners for extra balance and support. Having said that, keep in mind that natural ice can be a little more challenging than a standard rink, but that’s part of the adventure — and with a bit of balance, patience, and a sense of fun, you’ll be gliding across the ice and make a memorable experience.
Can children skate on the track?
For sure! Kids are welcome, but always supervise them closely. Natural ice can have uneven sections, and weather could be very cold on certain days. We have supports that can be used as skating aids for beginners. We do not recommend skating for kids younger than 4 years old, also because the smallest size we have is EU 30. You could also roam around on the track using the kicks led, they will love it!
What should I wear when skating?
Dress in layers, wear warm gloves, woollen socks and beanie (a thin one is better for the helmet, no pom-pom) along with the ski wear you normally use on the top. If you have a balaclava bring it with you, if not, we will provide you with one you can borrow to protect your face from the wind on the coldest days.
What else should I bring?
We suggest to bring a backpack with some extra layers and a bottle of water. The backpack can be kept safely inside our storage. If you have 2 layers of socks we recommend to keep just one on while skating (the thinner one) and keep the second one (warm thick woollen sock) as spare to be used only in the extremely cold conditions. We also recommend to have a spare base layer to change after the session if the inner moisture will wet the one you used. After mid-February, bring sunglasses on sunny days — the brightness off the reflection on the snow is no joke.
Is there a toilet?
Unfortunately we do not have one at our site, but in case of urgent matters there is a public outdoor toilet booth at the harbour (3 minutes away by car). For this reason we highly recommend to use the restrooms somewhere in Ivalo before your arrival at the track.
How do you maintain the track?
With ATVs, ploughs, snow blowers, and an ice-smoothing "trailer". You can find more details in our blog click here
Is the track always smooth?
We do our best! But natural ice changes every day, it is NOT like indoor or even outdoor small ice halls. Wind, snow, thawing and refreezing all affect surface quality. Expect a mixture of smooth sections, bumps, and small cracks — that’s part of the wild skating experience.
Which skates do you have?
We have hockey skates (size EU 35 until size EU 48), figure skates (size EU 35 until size EU 42). The kids skates are both hockey and figure (size EU 30 until size EU 34).
In addition to these, we have a few tour skates blades which can be tried only on selected shoes, so it will depend on your own snow boots.
Where can I park?
You can park right next to our starting point and the parking area is free. If the main lot is full, make sure not to block the access route of the neighbour. A member of our team will advise where to park. Do not go further than the "PRIVATE PROPERTY" sign.
